National Poetry Month: Day 5

The prompt for today was posted on Legendfire by Tisiphone’s Downfall: “Write a poem in any style, any length, using blank verse. This is simply unrhymed verse, especially unrhymed iambic pentameter. Each line will have around 5 (pentameter) iambs (one unstressed syllable followed by one stressed, such as in “ago”).”

Dear Self, I built our dream in one fortnight:

Huddled at my cluttered desk, I bemoaned
the loss of our last try, yet here I build
again on top the foundations of the old.

I take our past and melt it all to clay —
our life compressed to iridescent acts.

Since all memories turn to stone, why not
ignite the old to reach the new?
