I am going to embark on a new project while I try to heal from Covid19 complications and autoimmune issues. Since several friends wanted to read Emergent Strategy by adrienne maree brown but they struggled to find an accessible audio book version, I decided to try my hand at reading it out loud. This is the first half of the introduction in the below audio.
I make only two major mistakes, where I struggle over pronouncing a word, and I left those in the recording for authenticity sake. Plus I really didn’t want to re-record when I’d already devoted fifteen minutes to it! I wanted to get through the full introduction, but then realized that my attention and ability to parse the words was failing at thirty minutes in, so I had to stop at 34 minutes. That’s a long time to read!
I’ll start each section with my little intro of “Aidan’s Thoughts. Aidan Zingler is my name, and I am nonbinary, disabled, neurodiverse person who uses they/them pronouns. I am reading adrienne maree brown’s Emergent Strategy. We’ll start from where we left off.” Then I’ll read the page number/chapter name of where we are. I don’t do this in this first audio since I’m just starting! But I’ll try to standardize it.
Mind you, I haven’t yet gotten hold of adrienne maree brown to confirm if this is okay. If it’s not, I’ll take it down immediately. If she does approve, I’ll leave this up.
Also, at the end of my reading, I’ll share some thoughts in one or three sentences and maybe end on a question for y’all to ponder.
Let me know if the audio embedded below doesn’t work right. I may try other avenues of hosting this.
